Description

1928 LANCIA LAMBDA
8th Series

DS 6567

First registered in 1929, DS 6567 chassis number 21982, is a fantastic example of Lancia?s advanced Lambda, a sought after eighth series car, with its larger engine, chassis 21982, has enjoyed a cherished and eventful life, much of it in the hands of well-known vintage sports club members and collectors.
The Lambda was and remains to be, a tour de force of engineering prowess and Italian innovation, with its independent front suspension, with sliding pillars and unitary space frame chassis, of light steel construction, it is as if Vincenzo, with his loyal designer Falchetto, had literally, thrown away the rule book and started again.
First introduced at the Paris motor Show in 1922, the advanced technology didn?t stop with the rakish and low rolling chassis, a compact yet powerful engine was designed, with a very narrow angle V, with four cylinders and an overhead cam and often, as here, fitted with a Zenith Carburettor. Lancia often extoled ?The Best Medium powered sportscar in the world? a statement backed up by Lancia?s refusal to build to a price, but instead, to build a masterpiece of advanced design and quality, that would appeal, to the most discriminating motorist.
Very much, a car with touring style, but with the handling and performance characteristics, of a sportscar, Lambdas were often seen in competition, initially with works wins and entries on races, such as the Mille-Miglia, and later, a sought-after car with vintage enthusiasts, particularly those involved with the early days of the Vintage sportscar club, which leads us well to the history of this particular car.
Chassis no. 21982 was discovered by VSCC stalwarts and Lancia cognoscenti, Thomas Pomeroy and John Turner in the 1960s, the car was subsequently imported into the U. K and sent to the renowned Bassett-Down Workshops of Nigel Arnold-Forster, Nigel a well-known VSCC competitor and restorer of numerous important cars from Bugatti, Delage and of course Lancia!
In superb condition through-out, this eighth series car with handsome long-wheelbase coachwork, looks as low and sleek now, as it might have done when nearly new, finished in dark burgundy, the paint is in fine condition and the dark brown leather interior compliments it well, with a gentle patina, the car begs to be used and whilst in the current ownership, it has covered some 3000 miles since 2018 and has been continuously improved and maintained.
Recent maintenance has been carried out by Lancia specialist Tanc Barratt and includes, a full gearbox re-build, radiator re-core and minor chassis work. In addition, the differential oil seal was replaced, a new stainless steel exhaust system installed along with a new clutch, water pump, head gasket, brake shoe linings and brake cables. A new set of wheels and tyres by Richards Brothers of Wales were also fitted.
With its desirable large capacity engine and light steering, 21982 is a joy to drive, perfect for serious continental touring, rallies and raids to Italy as it is for the odd VSCC event, in fact an ideal, or should that be ultimate? candidate for the VSCC Longstone, Long-car Race!
