The Appeal
This is it; the ultimate giant killer. The Mini Cooper S took Issigonis's city car and packed it with John Cooper's finest, creating a super-agile, surprisingly hardy little rally machine that quickly racked up competition victories, most famously at the likes of Monte Carlo. It's little wonder it's still one of the most beloved classics in automotive history.
This particular example carries an intriguing backstory: its previous owner was a retired amateur racing driver who campaigned the car at local race meets in the early 1970s. Imported from the USA in 2017 (LHD to RHD Conversion) it required a thorough restoration as many parts were missing. It has since been completely stripped and rebuilt, with running gear powder-coated and worn components replaced with new items. The bodywork has been fully resprayed and still makes for a fabulous looker.
Under the bonnet, the engine has been specially built up with a supercharger, low compression head, forged pistons, high lift rockers, an electronic Bluetooth distributor, and a new Weber 40 DCOE carburettor. Described by the vendor as well-suited to modern driving whilst retaining its classic Mk1 looks, it's now ready and waiting for its lucky new keeper. image.png1.36 MB
