The Appeal

Giugiaro channelled some of the styling touchpoints of the Montreal to create Alfa’s beautifully balanced Type 116 coupe. The earliest chrome bumper cars are closest to his intentions and are the ones sought out by die-hard enthusiasts. These cars drive as well as they look thanks to revvy Nord 4cyl engines and a transaxle layout that gives near perfect weight distribution.

Sadly, those early cars are getting very thin on the ground. This Alfa Red 1979 car is one of the last of the pre-facelift cars and is a desirable GTV version with the larger 2L version of the brilliant twin cam ‘Nord’ engine. It is pleasingly factory standard including the grey velour cabin with its period radio and distinctive dial layout.

There are a few points to note in the photos, but for enthusiasts of these early cars, it is a rare find.
