The Appeal
A close relation to the TA64 Celica Twincam Turbo homologation special, the TA63 GT-TR is the road-going sibling of the car with which Toyota claimed its first Safari Rally victory in 1984. With its turbocharged 3T-GTE engine, close-ratio W55 gearbox, and factory limited-slip differential, the GT-TR was an impressive machine.
This example was originally imported from Japan and purchased by the current owner from a dealer in Ireland in late 2019. At that point, several items were missing, including the correct wheels, steering wheel, grille badges, and exterior trim pieces, all of which have since been sourced from suppliers around the world to bring the car back to its intended specification. The dedication involved in tracking down these parts speaks to the care this car has received.
Mechanically, the engine has been removed and subjected to a thorough rebuild, with a new clutch fitted upon reinstallation and the braking system fully refurbished. New carpet has been fitted inside, and the car remains completely standard apart from a replacement rear exhaust box. The vendor states the car runs and drives as it should and needs nothing. This GT-TR represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of Toyota's rarest sports cars.IMG_7961 Colm grant.jpeg12.29 MB
