The Appeal
The Jaguar XJ-S arrived in 1975 as a clear departure from the E-Type that preceded it, replacing traditional sports car drama with a more mature grand touring character. With its low-slung stance, distinctive flying buttresses and unmistakably British sense of restraint, it was designed for effortless long-distance motoring rather than outright theatrics. Powered in flagship form by Jaguar’s smooth V12 engine, the XJ-S evolved over its long production run from controversial successor to established modern classic, admired today for its refinement, comfort and understated presence.
This 1993 example is finished in a timeless red-and-black colour scheme and is understood to remain in a highly original, unmodified condition.
A substantial file of invoices and receipts accompanies the car, documenting significant maintenance and recommissioning work. Prior to the current ownership, it spent approximately 10 years in a private collection in North Wales, stored indoors in a large garage. Its underside is described as notably good, aided by careful storage and previous undersealing, while a number of age- and storage-related mechanical issues have since been addressed to return the car to full working order.
During the current ownership, the vehicle has been garaged throughout the winter months and kept beneath a fitted outdoor cover during summer, while also attending local Jaguar enthusiast club events. Now ready for its next custodian, it would make an appealing addition to a collection as well as a comfortable and relaxed weekend cruiser.
