The Appeal
The 2019 BMW M4 Competition (F83) is the most dialed-in version of the first-generation M4. It uses BMW’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six (S55), putting out 444hp, about 19hp more than the standard car, along with 406lb-ft of torque. The Competition package isn’t just about power, though. It brings a noticeably sharper setup, with stiffer springs, revised adaptive suspension, and tweaks to the differential and stability control that make the car feel more planted when you’re pushing it.
One of the standout features, especially for enthusiasts, is the six-speed manual gearbox. It’s pretty rare on this version, and while the dual-clutch gearbox is quicker on paper, the manual gives you a more involved, hands-on feel, and even has automatic rev-matching to smooth out downshifts. With the manual 'box, the car will do 0-100 km/h in around 4.3 seconds, still sending all that power to the rear wheels in the traditional M-car way.
In terms of looks, the Competition model gets a few subtle but effective upgrades: gloss black exterior trim, and those distinctive 20-inch Style '666M' wheels. Inside, you get lightweight sport seats with M-striped seatbelts, which add to the sense that this is a more focused car.
This 2019 example was reportedly purchased directly from BMW and has covered 32,968 km. Finished in BMW Individual Sakhir Orange Metallic, a striking colour from BMW's bespoke palette, it sits on the Competition-exclusive 20-inch Style ‘666M’ alloy wheels and features a black leather interior with contrasting orange stitching and carbon fibre trim. An Akrapovič exhaust system with carbon tips has been fitted. With a technical inspection valid until April 2028, this manual M4 Competition convertible is well worth a closer look.
